EXCLAMATIONS (= Kalimat Seru)

CHRIS: Isn’t it smart!

IWAN: Yes. And isn’t it impressive (= mengesankan)!

CHRIS: Ooh! Aren’t these water melons heavy!

Chris dan Lucia bertemu di jalan:

CHRIS: Hullo, Lucia. Isn’t it a beautiful day!

LUCIA: Yes, isn’t it!

Chris dan Iwan membicarakan suatu tugas rumah:

CHRIS: Wasn’t this a hard assignment!

IWAN: Yes. And wasn’t the other one hard too!

pertanyaan negatip + kata sifat

Isn’t she pretty! [IZənt syī PRITi]

dan pertanyaan negatip + a + kata sifat + kata benda

Wasn’t it a lovely day yesterday!

Didn’t he make a mess!

Aren’t they beautiful flowers!

WHAT DALAM KALIMAT SERU

LUCIA: Let’s go for a swim, Chris.

CHRIS: What a good idea!

Pola: WHAT A + KATA SIFAT + KATA BENDA COUNTABLE TUNGGAL

LUCIA: What nice people we met at the party!

Pola: WHAT + KATA SIFAT + KATA BENDA JAMAK

CHRIS: Yes, and what nice food we ate!

Pola: WHAT + KATA SIFAT + KATA BENDA UNCOUNTABLE

LUCIA: I’ve lost my hat!

CHRIS: What a pity!

WHAT A PITY! (= Sayang!)

JANE: Don’t wasn’t able to go to the party.

MARGARET: What a shame!

WHAT A SHAME! (= Sayang!)

JANE: I’ve forgotten my umbrella.

CHRIS: What a nuisance!

WHAT A NUISANCE! (= Wah!)

KALIMAT SERU DENGAN SO . . . SUCH . . . (= begitu . . .)

LUCIA: It’s so beautiful here!

Pola: SO + ADJECTIVE

CHRIS: Yes. And the water’s so calm! (= tenang)

(Kata so dipakai untuk menunjukkan kuatnya perasaan kita tentang sesuatu hal.)

LUCIA: It’s so warm (that) I want to swim!

CHRIS: It was so cold yesterday (that) I didn’t want to swim!

Kalimat seru: The weather was so hot

Akibat: (that) I went for a swim.

Kalimat seru: The water is so clear (= jernih)

Akibat: (that) I can see the sand.

It was such a nice day (that) I went to the beach.

Pola: SUCH + A + KATA SIFAT + KATA BENDA COUNTABLE TUNGGAL

It was such good weather (that) she went to the park.

Pola: SUCH + KATA SIFAT + KATA BENDA UNCOUNTABLE

They were such nice people (that) I hope I meet them again.

Pola: SUCH + KATA SIFAT + KATA BENDA JAMAK

Catatan: Dalam pola di atas, kata that dapat dihilangkan.
