Pelajaran 20 – Pengulangan Pelajaran 1 – 19

BAGIAN I: SEBELUM SIARAN

Pelajaran nomor 20 ini berbeda dengan pelajaran-pelajaran yang lalu. Dalam siaran tidak ada hal-hal baru yang akan saudara pelajari. Saudara akan mengulangi beberapa hal yang sudah saudara pelajari mulai dari pelajaran nomor 1 sampai dengan pelajaran nomor 19. Sesudah siaran ada beberapa latihan yang merupakan test untuk dikerjakan. Kerjakanlah latihan-latihan tersebut sebaik-baiknya. Latihan ini akan membantu saudara meninjau kembali pengetahuan bahasa Inggris saudara. Juga dalam siaran tidak akan terdapat banyak kata baru, sehingga saudara dapat memusatkan perhatian pada apa yang saudara dengar dan mengulangi kembali hal-hal yang sudah saudara pelajari!

Kata-kata baru:

confuse [kən’FYŪZ] = mengacaukan

practise [‘PRÆKtəs] = berlatih

BAGIAN II: SESUDAH SIARAN

Di bawah ini latihan-latihan pelajaran 20 yang merupakan test:

A. Isilah titik-titik dalam bacaan di bawah ini dengan bentuk yang betul dari kata kerja dalam tanda kurung.

Contoh: She always . . . . (WORK) in the morning.

Jawab: She always works in the morning.

Contoh: She . . . . (WORK) now.

Jawab: She’s working now.

At the moment Mr and Mrs Carter are at home. It’s 6 o’clock in the evening. Mrs Carter . . . . (COOK) the dinner and Mr Carter . . . . (WATCH) T.V. Mr and Mrs Carter always . . . . (EAT) their dinner at about 7 o’clock. Mr Carter . . . . (ARRIVE) home at about 6 o’clock and he (WATCH) T.V. from 6 to 7. He . . . . (WATCH) an interesting program now. Mrs Carter . . . . B. Isilah titik-titik dalam bacaan di bawah ini dengan a, an atau the.

C. Lengkapilah pertanyaan-pertanyaan di bawah ini dengan memakai kata-kata tanya yang berikut:

Setiap kata tanya hanya boleh dipakai satu kali saja.

D. Gantilah kata-kata yang dicetak tebal dengan kata ganti he/him/his atau she/her/her. Kerjakanlah sesuai dengan contohnya.

Contoh: Mr Brown‘s a nice person. I like Mr Brown. Mr Brown’s wife is nice too.

Jawab: He‘s a nice person. I like him. His wife is nice too.

1. Mrs Brown‘s a pretty woman. I like Mrs Brown. Mrs Brown’s daughter is pretty too.
2. Bill‘s an interesting man. I like Bill. Bill’s friend is interesting too.
3. John‘s an important person. I like John. John’s work is important too.
4. Betty‘s a beautiful woman. I like Betty. Betty’s sister is beautiful too.

E. Isilah setiap kelompok titik-titik dalam kalimat-kalimat di bawah ini dengan is, isn’t, are atau aren’t. Mungkin juga saudara harus memakai some atau any — tetapi tidak selalu. Jadi berhati-hatilah!

Contoh: There are some books on the shelf and there . . . . magazines on the table.

Jawab: There are some books on the shelf and there are some magazines on the table.

Contoh: There are 3 bedrooms in my house but there . . . . a verandah.

Jawab: There are 3 bedrooms in my house but there isn’t a verandah.

1. There are some biscuits in the box but there . . . . cakes in the tin.
2. There are some carrots in the refrigerator but there . . . . cucumbers.
3. There are some magazines on the table but there . . . . books.
4. There are some trees in my garden and there . . . . roses too.
5. There are 10 Indonesians in my college and there . . . . 4 Indian students too.
6. There aren’t any men in her office, there . . . . 6 women.

F. Pelajarilah bacaan di bawah ini, kemudian jawablah pertanyaan-pertanyaan pada akhir bacaan tersebut. Untuk menjawab pertanyaan tersebut diperlukan bermacam-macam jawaban. Berikanlah jawaban yang singkat di mana mungkin. (Misalnya: Is Bill a busy man? Yes, he is.) Tetapi kadang-kadang diperlukan jawaban yang lebih panjang. (Misalnya: When does Bill get up? He gets up at 6 o’clock.) Jawaban saudara harus merupakan kalimat yang lengkap.

Bill’s a very busy man. He lives about 30 kilometres from the city. He gets up (= bangun) at 6 o’clock every morning. He eats his breakfast and then he goes by bus to the city. He always arrives at his office at 9 o’clock. Bill’s a clerk and he works in an insurance office. He works from 9 o’clock to 5 o’clock. Bill usually arrives home at about 6 o’clock but sometimes he arrives home late. At night Bill often helps his wife in the kitchen and he plays with his children. On Saturday morning Bill goes shopping and in the afternoon he works in the garden. On Sunday Bill and his family go to church (= pergi ke gereja). In the afternoon they sometimes go for a drive and in summer Bill and his children often go to the beach. Bill’s wife never goes to the beach because she doesn’t like swimming.
